GUARDIANSHIP TRAINING PROJECT

Is sponsored by the Community Council of Senior Citizens and the Elders Concern & Abuse Prevention Task Force.  Our focus is to provide family members and community members seeking guardianship the encouragement, support, guidance and training they need to be competent guardians for their loved ones.  We have produced a video, "Considering Guardianship: The First Step", that is available for sale ($18.95 per copy).  This fifteen minute video is a collage of real life experiences of people in NH who have become guardians and makes an excellent addition to the video library of any agency working with the elderly and incapacitated adults.  I am also available to go to organizations in Rockingham and Strafford counties to view the video and conduct an information session on the Guardianship Training Project.

HAMPTON CHILD AND FAMILY PROGRAM

Hampton Child and Family Program provides preschool, extended care, before and after kindergarten care and before and after Head Start.  We are the only childcare facility in Hampton offering scholarship assistance to lower income working families in the Hampton, North Hampton, Seabrook area.  We also offer literacy and family programs.  We provide much of our assistance to working families that usually fall through the cracks in society.  They earn too much for state or federal assistance, yet don't earn enough to pay for rent, utilities, and childcare for their families.  We interact with Hampton Community Coalition, Families First, Greater Seacoast Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Head Start to ensure all children in the Hampton area have equal opportunities.

Assertive (versus aggressive or passive) communication can help create a sense of self and foster an environment that is meaningful and fulfilling. This workshop will help you express yourself with equanimity and clarity while honoring other perspectives. Co-facilitators are Judy Ringer and Tom Dubois. Enrollment limited to ten participants. "We are being judged by a new yardstick: not just how smart we are, or by our training and expertise, but also by how well we handle ourselves and each other."
- Daniel Goleman, Working with Emotional Intelligence
Do you seek to be more effective in your personal or professional life? Do you find yourself provoked or flustered easily? The ability to utilize Emotional Intelligence is critical to interpersonal effectiveness and is a distinguishing quality of leadership at any level of the organization and from all walks of life. Distinct from, but complementary to IQ or cognitive capacity, Emotional Intelligence is the ability to communicate understanding and appreciation, to manage and motivate others, to think clearly, and to respond confidently under pressure. In this new offering from Power & Presence, you'll become better equipped to tap the resources of Emotional Intelligence and direct conflict and communication into useful outcomes through centering, discovery, relational awareness and useful dialogue skills. Co-trainers: Judy Ringer and Ann Driscoll, Ed.D.

Each time conflict shows up, we have the opportunity to respond with awareness. Yet so often we fight or flee. We know what we want to do, but we react before we can stop and think. The Magic of Conflict is an opportunity to become more aware of your physical, mental and emotional responses and choose the ones that foster positive outcomes. You'll learn principles from the Japanese martial art aikido and practice mind/body skills like centering, empathy, and redirection of energy. You'll use this new awareness to initiate verbal interactions that engage others in problem-solving strategies and transform difficult situations into opportunities to learn.

THE STEP BY STEP CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM

is a statewide job readiness activity for the New Hampshire Employment Program. The NH Division of Family Assistance has contracted with Second Start, an adult education center in Concord, NH, to administer the program. Step by Step has fourteen offices and several appointment sites located through-out the state.  Step by Step works solely with individuals receiving public assistance from TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families).  Step by Step's primary goal is to guide participants off of welfare and into a life of self- sufficiency. Career exploration, Job Readiness, job search.  They have people with skills ready to go and be employed!
